The Alaskan Silver (COHO) Salmon fishing has been outstanding. We have been getting close to limits, daily, on the Lil Susitna River, in the Matanuska Valley, along with some Alaskan Red (SOCKEYE) Salmon!

It seems that the lives of the Alaskan King (CHINOOK) Salmon is coming to an end. They have been slowly making their way to spawn, then coming to rest, to sacrifice their bodies to nourish the new, young Alaskan King Salmon.

We have been seeing Alaskan Moose, American Bald Eagles, and an occasional Alaskan Brown Bear.

Starting on Monday August 6th, bait will be allowed on the Lil Susitna, which will be increasing the catch, to possible Limits on every trip!!

We still have a few open spots, so book your trip with us NOW!!!

Well, its time to wet my line, so, until we meet again, "TIGHT LINES TO ALL"

Alaska Silver Salmon, July 20-21, 2007
Yesterday, Friday, July 20th, we actually did pretty well! My morning trip produced 9 Alaska Silver Salmon, while fishing on the Lil Susitna River, in the Matanuska Valley, averaging between 8-11 lbs.
The Afternoon trip produced 6 fish, with first time fisherman visiting Alaska. They were stoked to be able to catch these fish. First time in Alaska, and succeeded with the fish!!! Every time they hooked a fish, they screamed FISH ON!!! WOW, that was exciting to see this family, catching these Alaska Silver Salmon!!! It was a great ending to a productive day!!

Today, Saturday July 21st, Our morning trip, produced 11 fish, weighing in at an average of 10-13 lbs. The weather was about 75-80 degrees, not only was the weather HOT, but the Alaska Silver Salmon fish was even HOTTER!!!

Last night, we saw Alaska King Salmon, traveling up the Lil Susitna River, from our deck over looking the Lil SU, to spawn, there sure were a lot of them with a few Alaska Red Salmon, trailing behind. Its nice to be able to see these salmon traveling without being disturbed on their journey to produce new fish for us, in the up and coming years.

Catch ya on the next HIGH TIDE!!

Alaska Silver Salmon Fishing for July 19th, 2007
We fished the Lil Susitna River in the Matanuska Valley today. We did extremely well considering the clear low water conditions we had. Our morning trip, produced 8 Alaska Silver Salmon, averaging to be 10 lbs. or more. Our afternoon trip, produced 7 Alaska Silver Salmon. These afternoon fish were really BIG MALES!! They were averaging to be at least 12-14 lbs.!!! These fish were fresh from the ocean, they were as chrome bright as a fresh clean bumper on your truck!! Not only did we get some fish, today, we also saw some Alaska Brown Bear, Alaska Bull Moose, mink, numerous beavers, mallards, and the ALL MIGHTY ALASKAN AMERICAN BALD EAGLE!!!!

There you have it, Thursday's Report for Alaska Salmon Fishing, with Capt. Ray @ Fisherman's Choice Charters! <>< <>< <><

Alaska Salmon Fishing, King Salmon 2007
Hello from Capt. Ray @ Fisherman's Choice Charters, sorry for the delay on the reports...

2007 King Salmon Season was well below the previous years. Low water & warm water conditions, were almost daily. Making it very difficult for fishing. It was slow every where, anyone fished. Although, we did land some nice size Alaska King Salmon, the fishing was still slow.

We caught our first Alaskan King Salmon on May 11th, back trolling k15 quick fish plugs, on the lower end of the Lil Susitna River in the Matanuska Valley. We fished the Lil Susitna River until the 28th of May with less than average success with these fish. Since the fishing conditions in the Matanuska Valley, weren't up to par as it has been in the past few years.

We switched over to fishing the Deshka River, in Willow, for the Alaska King Salmon for more success with these fish, due to allowing the use of bait, with a 2 fish limit. The first Alaska king Salmon we landed was on May 28th, using Alaska King Salmon eggs, with a bait dropper loop, and 2 hooks. The Alaskan King Salmon fishing on the Deshka River, was well below normal, due to low and warm water conditions as well, although, we did get more fish out of the Deshka River, than we had gotten from the Lil Susitna River.
The fish out of the Deshka River, were averaging between 18-46 lbs.

Then we moved up to the Talkeetna River, in Talkeetna Alaska, for the Alaska King Salmon, on June 29th, and the fishing up on the Talkeetna River was much better than expected. The colder water temperatures & the higher water level, made for much higher success rate for the fishing conditions, on the Talkeetna River.

Although the fishing was much better in the Talkeetna River, the fish were much smaller, than what had been landed while fishing the Lil Susitna and Deshka River.

But we did manage to land an Alaskan King Salmon that weighed in at 52 lbs!!!! That was a beauty.

We are now fishing back on the Lil Susitna River, in the Matanuska Valley, for Alaskan Silvers Salmon, Chum Salmon, Sockeye Salmon & Pink Salmon. The fishing is fare, at this time, although a few people have obtained their limit of 2, Silver Salmon.

Stay Tuned for more action, from Capt. Ray @ Fisherman's Choice Charters.

Alaska Silver Salmon Fishing 2006
Good Morning from Houston, Alaska! Our fishing report edit page is back up and running so we will attempt to keep you better informed during the Silver Salmon Season on the Mat-Su Valley Rivers here in South Central Alaska. Well, King Salmon Season is coming to a close today. In spite of a slow start due to the late spring and late arrival of the kings, we had a pretty productive Alaska King Salmon Fishing Season in 2006. The King fishing on the Talkeetna River is finally in full swing so we will have a great ending as we have caught most of our kings in the 40-60 pound range on the Talkeetna River. As for Silver Salmon, things look fabulous. We were picking up Silvers on the Deshka River before we left there to fish Kings on the Talkeetna over a week ago. Some of our guides have been keeping track of the Silver run on the Little Susitna River as well and have limited out several times already. We will be fishing for Silvers along with the Sockeye passing through and the Chums that are in, starting on Wednesday. We are starting to get booked up but still have some seats left for our fishing friends to join us in the next 6 or 7 weeks. We will have all four boats on the water and of course will be running our 2 trips per day so give us a call and we will get you set up for some dynamite Silver and Sockeye Salmon fishing with us. Happy fishing and above all, be safe on the water!!

ALASKA KING SALMON FISHING
THE KINGS ARE IN!! Good Morning Friends and Fellow Anglers! Well, the weather is a little gloomy today on the Little Susitna River here in Houston, Alaska but I’d be willing to wager that the fish won’t mind. The water is still running low but it didn’t seem to stop Ray and his clients on the lower end of the Little Susitna River out of Burma yesterday. It was a very good day all-in-all. The weather was gorgeous and the fishing was super! The boat ride in the morning made for a sight seeing adventure in itself. The clients were able to view several eagles, a hawk, a beaver, several moose and 2 nice grizzlies. Though we did not see or hear of any other Alaska King Salmon being caught on the Little Su yesterday, our clients fared well. We landed two chrome silver Alaska King Salmon. The first to be landed was a bright male that was landed by John, from Denver, Colorado and weighed in at 30.5 pounds. The catch of the day however was a male hog tipping the scales at 39.6 pounds and was hooked and landed by John’s 8 year old son. Both Alaska King Salmon were obviously fresh out of the ocean, still carrying sea lice. We are out on the river again today and hopefully they will keep on coming. Will let you know how the weekend progresses. In the meantime, we still have some availability on our calendar so drop us a line and we’ll hook you up! Have a great weekend and keep your tip up.

Alaska Salmon and Rainbow Trout Fishing
Good Morning! It finally feels like Spring here in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley in South Central Alaska. The Best of the Valley winners were released in this morning’s Frontiersman Newspaper and Fisherman's Choice Charters was voted BEST FISHNG CHARTER again this year making it our 6th year as Best Fishing Charter since 2000! Thanks so much to all our fishing clients for your continued support. We will continue to live up to our reputation, always putting our clients’ fishing success and enjoyment above all else. You make it happen for us! Thanks again.
On another note, our migrating mallards have returned to the open water on the Little Susitna River in front of our homestead here in Houston, confirming that it is indeed spring. They are preparing to nest and as always, we look forward to watching the new family members as the summer progresses. In the meantime, we too are gearing up for our 2006 season. The boats are out and Ray and Jason have begun to prepare the equipment for our first fishing voyage. Our new reels have arrived and the new motor is ready. The Little Susitna River is running very low at this point in time, making navigating it a challenge to say the least but this warm weather should cause some melting so hopefully that will bring the water level up. The Talkeetna River was not quite open for fishing the other day but we will be checking it out today and hope to be Spring Trout Fishing in the next day or two. We will also be fishing the Little Susitna for Early King Salmon in about 10 days or so. At this point it is shaping up to be a very busy summer but we will be running 4 boats 2 trips per day this year so we do still have some openings. Give us a call and we can book your spot in advance to assure your date and time of choice.
Have a good day and log on tonight for updates on Alaska spring trout fishing on the Talkeetna River, and water conditions here on the Alaska Mat-Su Valley Rivers.

Alaska Rainbow Trout Fishing
We've been fishing Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden and Arctic Grayling in the Talkeetna River drainage. Today I fished with a couple Fly Fishermen and we just pounded the Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden. Some of the Trout were in the 24 to 26 inches range. These fish are getting pretty fat from all the King Salmon, Silver Salmon and Chum Salmon eggs that are rolling around on the bottom of the Talkeetna River. The water on the River has dropped alot so watch out for sand bars and logs! The Rainbow Trout Fishing is at it's peak right now so get out there, soon it will all come to a end!

Alaska Fall Trout & Salmon Fishing Report
Hello Again!! Well, the water finally went down here on the Little Susitna River and the Talkeetna River here in the Mat-Su Valley in South Central Alaska. After a week or better of flood-stage waters and having to cancel out a 10 hour fishing charter on the 24th, we are trout fishing once again. Our party of three spent 6 hours with us today trout fishing the Talkeetna River near Clear Creek. The river was at a very fishable level and we were able to hook into some real Alaska beauties. They landed probably a dozen or more Alaska Silver Salmon and one Chum Salmon but as you can imagine at this time of year, they were pretty beat and we released them to spawn. We also found a couple of great holes for Alaska Trout. The guys were able to hook and land literally dozens of different trout. They caught at least a dozen dolly varden, a couple of them being in the 4 pound range, measuring 27 inches. Alaska Rainbow Trout were even more plentiful, numbering better than 2 dozen caught and released. The colors of these trophy Rainbow Trout were awesome and one in particular weighed in over 5 pounds and was 29 inches long. We also got to see a lot of bald eagles and numerous bear tracks. Needless to say we ended our day of fishing with 3 very satisfied customers. The Alaska Trout Fishing is only going to get better from now til freeze-up so if you get the chance, we encourage you to get out there and take advantage of this beautiful fall Alaska Trophy Trout fishing. Just remember though, the high water has done some major damage to the rivers, causing trees and log jams to cross the waters and changing channels as it washed out a lot of banks and beaches. So if you venture out with your own boats, be especially cautious and attentive to the river. We want to see you out there again next season. Have a good evening and log on again in a few days for updates on trout fishing and water conditions here on the Alaska Mat-Su Valley Rivers.

Talkeetna River Rainbow Trout fishing
We've been fishing Alaska Rainbow Trout in the Talkeetna area. The water is coming down and Rainbow trout are beging to turn on strong. Today we landed many Rainbows over four pounds and Dolly's in the three pound range! We also landed a good number of Artic Grayling!! Plus a couple of Silver Salmon that have seen there better days! There were a few Sockeye salmon still at the mouth of fish creek as we walked by! The water on creek is still pretty high so some of the fish are still going up the right channel! I'm going to try to cut out big cotton tree that's blocking Clear Creek tomorrow, so we can get a Jet Boat up a little farther. There're alot of Bear tracks on the creek so careful!

Alaska Silver and Sockeye Salmon Fishing

Good Evening! We are still fishing the Alaska Silver Salmon and Sockeye Salmon here on the Little Susitna River in South Central Alaska. We have boats fishing both ends of the Little Susitna River now here in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley just 90 minutes north of Anchorage. We are fishing from our own private launch here in Houston and from the Burma Landing on the lower end of the river just outside of Wasilla. Though they are coming in slower this year, we are still limiting out on Silver Salmon and Sockeye Salmon more often than not. It is amazing but the Silver Salmon are still coming in on the tides and we are picking them up with sea lice on them even now. We are also picking up some Alaska Pink Salmon and Chum Salmon as well. Not many Sockeye Salmon are on the lower end of the river but there are still some nice ones on the upper end making it easier to fill the 3 salmon limit. We have boats going out on both ends of the river again tomorrow so we will keep you posted. Looks like we will be catching some nice Silver Salmon for another week or two at least. We of course are still able to use bait (salmon eggs) but many of our Alaska Silver Salmon and Alaska Sockeye Salmon are hitting on spinners just as well, if not better. With 3 boats going out for the remainder of the month, we do still have some openings and there is much less boat traffic and fewer fishermen on the river so it is a great time to go and relax and enjoy the beautiful fall and awesome fishing. We are also gearing up for some great Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden fishing starting around the second week of September and will be trout fishing til freeze-up.

Alaska Silver salmon fishing report
Another great day fishing the Alaska Silver Salmon here on the Little Susitna River in South Central Alaska. Our boats landed 26 Alaska Silver Salmon this morning along with many Pink Salmon and Chum Salmon. Not many Sockeye Salmon are being seen at this point as the majority of them have already sprinted through the lower end of the Little Susitna River headed for Nancy Lake Creek. This afternoon the Little Susitna River was bombarded with huge schools of bright chrome silver salmon fresh off the tide waters making the afternoon trips equally productive. We were also able to see a number of Alaska King Salmon spawning in the lower end of the river. As fall closes in here in Mat-Su Valley Alaska, we are seeing more and more wildlife on our charters. We have seen several moose, bald eagles, otter, beaver and even a couple of bears. We are getting booked quickly but still have some openings in the next couple of weeks so give us a call. Remember, bait (salmon egg) season opens Saturday the 6th. Happy fishing.

Alaska Salmon Fishing the Mat-Su
It would appear that the Alaska Silver Salmon run is officially in gear here in South Central Alaska. We have been fishing the Little Susitna River here in the Mat-Su Valley since the 14th of July for Silver Salmon, and Sockeye Salmon and have been doing quite well for this early in the season with just a couple of tough days in the mix. However, today the Little Susitna River was swarming with Alaska Silver Salmon. We limited out with little effort this morning and it looks like a lot more fish came in on the tide today as well and are working their way upstream. As we always expect, this weekend should be hot! We are also picking up a large number of Alaska Chum Salmon and the Pink Salmon are filtering in. The Sockeye Salmon have been shooting through on their way to Nancy Lake Creek and should be arriving there in pretty good numbers by the weekend as well.

Alaska Salmon and Trout Fishing Report for July 16
Hello from Mat-Su Valley. Yesterday I took a group of fly fisherman up to Clear Creek for what turned out to be about 8 hours of top notch Alaska Salmon and Trout Fishing. It may have started out slow, but once we found the right holes it was a hook up on every third cast. Dolly Varden was the catch of the day for the most part, but in a couple holes we did pick up a few Sockeye Salmon and all in all it was a great day of fishing.

Today it we went back down to the Little Susitna River at Burma Landing for some early season Alaska Silver and Sockeye Salmon Fishing. All told throughout the day we caught a dozen tough fighting Chum Salmon, four Silver Salmon and over a half dozen Sockeye Salmon.

Tomorrow we are back out on the Little Susitna for more Alaska Salmon Fishing and the fishing is getting better and better every day.

See you out there.

Alaska Salmon Fishing is Still Hot at Clear Creek
Hello from Clear Creek and the Talkeetna River from Captain Ray. The water has come up on the Talkeetna about 6 inches while the water is still coming down on Clear Creek. Martin caught upwards of 9 fish this morning and kept 3, while I was limited out by 8:30am, with the majority being nice bright fish. The Alaska King Salmon Fishing is still good and the Alaska Silver Salmon Fishing on the Little Susitna River is starting to pick up. The acrobatic Coho, the tough fighting Chums and the ever elusive Reds (Sockeye Salmon) are starting to make their way from the ocean to their spawning grounds upriver.

We have 3 boats going out in the morning and two in the afternoon, I'll post tomorrow night and let you know how it goes.

Till then,

We’ll catch you on the next tide!
