Little Susitna River public boat launchAlaska's Little Susitna River is a 90 minute drive north of Anchorage, or 45 minutes from Wasilla. It's a wonderfully scenic drive.

The boat access to the lower end of the river at Burma Landing, the  public boat launch, is easily road accessible. To get there one must travel about 17 miles from Wasilla on Kink-Goose Bay Road, then turn right on Pt. MacKenzie Road and follow the small blue boat launch signs at each intersection.

Alaska King Salmon (Chinook Salmon) first enter the Little Susitna River in early May.  We fish for King Salmon here on the lower end of the river at the Point McKenzie Launch outside of Wasilla until early June.

In mid-July, after the close of Alaska King Salmon Season, we return to the Point McKenzie Launch on the Little Susitna River to fish for the Alaska Silver (Coho) Salmon and Alaska Sockeye (Red) Salmon .  At this time the Little Susitna River also hosts a huge number of Chum and Humpy Salmon as well.  Though they are not a great eating fish, they are an added bonus and are great fun to fight!!

When fishing the upper end of the Little Susitna River at our private launch here in Houston, the trip is about an hour and fifteen minutes north of Anchorage but instead of turning in Wasilla, you keep going on the George Parks Highway right into Houston.

Our chalet is actually bordered by the Parks Highway and the Little Susitna River.

Alaska Silver Salmon ont the Little Susitna River. Another trophy catch with Anchorage's Artic Gym owner and trainer Dan Alch and company.
The Alaska King Salmon begin to filter into the upper end of the Little Susitna River here in Houston by about the second week in June however, we opt not to fish for Kings from our launch.  The run of Alaska King Salmon on the Little Susitna River is not as heavy as that of the Deshka River so we choose to let them go, in an attempt to reach escapement and build the population back to where it should be.

The Alaska Sockeye Salmon however is heaviest here on the Little Susitna River and they hold in large numbers at Nancy Lake Creek just a short boat ride down the river from our private launch here in Houston.  We begin fishing for the sockeye salmon (red salmon) around the 25th of July.  We also fish for the Alaska Silver Salmon out of our Houston launch on the Little Susitna River beginning the second week in August. Alaska's Deshka River is also just 90 minutes north of Anchorage.

You continue through Wasilla and Houston into the town  of Willow. There you will take a left onto Willow Creek Parkway and travel about 10 minutes off the highway. We launch there at the Riverside Boat Launch.

Experience some of the best Alaska salmon fishing on the Little Susitna River in HoustonCaptain Ray with an Alaska Sockeye Salmon from Nancy Lake Creek on the Little Susitna River in HoustonThe Alaska King Salmon begin to enter the Deshka River in good numbers by the first of June.  We leave the Little Susitna River at that time to alleviate the pressure on the Alaska King Salmon migration.  As the Alaska King Salmon run on the Deshka River is so phenomenal, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game has raised the daily bag limit from 1 fish to 2 fish per day on this river only.  The use of bait is also allowed at this time so the fishing is fast and furious!

We continue to fish for Alaska King Salmon on the Deshka River until the run slows, usually around the 25th of June. We also pick up a number of Rainbow Trout during this time as well.

Alaska's Talkeetna River is located a little more than 2 hours north of Anchorage in the town of Talkeetna.  Though it is a bit further to drive than the Little Susitna River or Deshka River, it is well worth ones' time.  DThe mouth of Clear Creek just off the Talkeetna River just north of Anchorageuring the King Salmon and Rainbow Trout fishing seasons, the fishing is second to none, and the drive is breathtaking!  On a clear day you can see the most incredible view of Mt. McKinley just outside of town as well as on the river.

Alaska King Salmon Fishing with Artic Gym Olympic Coaches on the Deshka River at sunrise. As with the Deshka River and Little Susitna River, the Talkeetna River has a campground located at or near the launch.  There are also great hotels, cabins and B & B's close by in both the town of Talkeetna and Wasilla.  Just let us know and we would be happy to assist you in finding appropriate accommodations if needed.

The Alaska King Salmon begin to enter the Talkeetna River in good numbers around the 3rd week in June which works out great for us as that is the same time that it begins to slow down on the Deshka River in Willow.  Though the Talkeetna River King Salmon have a little more color in them than the King Salmon on the Deshka River and Little Susitna River, they are quite a bit larger in size, running consistently in the 40 pound range.  Our last year's prize King Salmon weighed in at just over 68 pounds!!   Unfortunately our fishing client had not entered the derby and the $10,000 purse went to a 57 pound King Salmon.  So ask us how to sign up for the King Salmon Derby before your charter!
